You're Not Lazy, You're Scared: What Your Creative Procrastination Is Really About

I'm noticing my avoidance around certain creative things popping up a bit more right now.

A part of me feels frustration but a larger part of me feels curiosity since I know that procrastination is protection.

Something about what I am moving towards or wanting to work on doesn't feel safe......and that creates far more compassion than the "I'm lazy" (false) storyline.

Fighting against or trying to push through this feeling often creates a story in myself that "this creative thing is too hard" which then creates more avoidance and thus the cycle continues.

I have been finding more and more that working with my procrastination, leaning into it, learning its shape and story helps me to move through it much faster (and get inspiration along the way).

So for this week, we might ask ourselves:

  • What is one creative thing I am currently procrastinating on?

  • What does my specific type of procrastination look like?

  • What part of it feels hard and why? What might it be protecting me from?

  • If my procrastination could talk, what would it say?

  • Instead of avoiding or trying to push through, how might I show up to my procrastination differently (EFT Tapping will help with this!)

  • What's the tiniest action step I can take to let my procrastination know we are safe to take this creative step?
