Yes, the calendar year changed but please know that you can “start” your year whenever you feel energetically aligned to do so. You don’t have to force something you don’t feel. 

Timelines are the infinite possible realities that are available to us at any given moment. 

It’s scary to surrender because it’s steeped in uncertainty; most of the time we don’t know what’s on the other side and we’d rather hold on to the old, even if it’s not working, than to let it die and embrace what will likely be infinitely better.
